Mama’s Day Out–warning, girly post!

Yesterday, I was freed of childcare duties for the whole day.  It was awesome–I left around 9:30 to go to my favorite French bakery for coffee and an “Alsatian”: a croissant filled with a hazelnut, almond and walnut filling and a delicate sweet glaze.  Then, I drove to Albany to hit the shops, since I needed some new spring clothes.  Which I didn’t find, but whatever.  I hit up P.F. Chang’s for lunch (steamed dumplings and spicy green beans, with a glass of pinot grigio) and finally hit my favorite wine store for a mixed case, since we were getting low (and had no whites with which to celebrate the warmer weather).

So, meh, the clothes shopping wasn’t so great, but I did score some new curtains for Jack’s room and a cork board in the shape of a rocket.  I also went to my favorite cosmetic counter.  Yes, I like makeup.  Do I wear it often?  Not as much as I used to, but I loves me some beautiful eye shadow and lip gloss.  And my confession is that the best I have found so far is Chanel.  The new colors are beautiful, they last forever, and there’s something really satisfying about the way they are packaged.  They also make the best eye makeup remover ever as well as a really great eye shadow base, which makes the color last longer throughout the day (and is pretty as a little shimmer on its own) and is totally worth it.

I got home to a little boy who was very happy to see me.  It was very cute.  I had called Ben from the road, and he put the call on speaker.  When Jack heard me, the poor kid just lost it and started sobbing hysterically–guess he missed me, but didn’t realize it!
